It has been nothing short of an adventure living in Burundi, East Africa for the last two years. Every expectation I (Carley) had for this season of life was shattered and replaced by a whole new way of looking at missions and aid around the world. Living here has been the hardest thing I have ever done, yet it has changed me in ways I never thought possible.
But times are a-changin’ once again.
This June, we will be flying out of Burundi with no return ticket. We were extremely blessed by a supporter who felt the desire to fund a trip for us around Europe, which is something we could have only ever dreamt of! It will be a wonderful time of debriefing and bonding together, just Ladd and I. This was such an answer to prayer, as we have had precious little time alone this year. I can’t imagine a better way to come back to the US, refilled and ready for all that God has for us next! We will arrive back in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho sometime the first week of August.
So what is next?
Ladd will spend the next year attending university, and I will be working! Not entirely sure where I will be working, but a few possibilities are available. I struggle with how anything could possibly be as fulfilling as this last job, but I know that wherever I am, God will be working and therefore it will be fulfilling.
As far as living situations go, we will live with my mom, Ladd’s parents, and my grandparents through next May. That alone has been such a praise as we will be able to come home and work and save money since everything was given away or sold in the process of moving here! After May, we will have made a decision on what will follow, whether we will move or stay in CDA. Currently, we are renting our house that we own in CDA in order to make some extra money.
We are happily coming back into our local church family at Anthem Friends. They have been absolutely wonderful and supportive these a last two years. What an amazing gift it has been to have such an incredible church family.
Since so many of you have asked us, we are not sure about starting a family just yet. We want to get home and get settled and then consider what children look like for us. We definitely both want kids, but we want to be a bit more settled when that time comes!
Thank you for praying with us and for us over the last two years, and we look forward greatly to continuing in relationship with you as we enter into this next season of life.
